  • That’s one huge shark

gettingaclue 9:43 pm on April 26, 2007 Permalink | Reply

Saw this over at Japan Probe and just had to share.

A 9 meter long shark was caught off the coast of Ibaraki Prefecture.

    That thing is seriously huge.

Click here and read about it.

Ever wonder what you would do with a huge shark? I’d keep it and let it swim around for a bit but I was never any good at keeping fishes. If only it could run around on land, then at least I can bring it to school and show off.

“Hey! Look at my gigantic shark! It’s teh pwnz!!11″

    Lack of sleep kills braincells.

  • Earth 2

Was looking around Ananova.com and came across this:

    Scientists find Earth 2

A planet resembling Earth has finally been found and conditions there are ideal for life.

Astronomers say water could exist on the surface and temperatures are between zero and 40°C, reports The Sun.

It is one-and-a-half times the size of our own planet and the discovery team say conditions are perfect for Earthlings.

It is 14 times closer to its star Gliese 581 than we are to the sun, but its star is much cooler.

A European team used a giant telescope on a mountain top at La Silla, Chile, to spot the planet – which is 20.5 light-years away in the constellation of Libra.

Scientist Xavier Delfosse said: “This planet will most probably be a very important target of the future space missions dedicated to the search for extra-terrestrial life.

“On the treasure map of the universe, one is tempted to mark this planet with an X.”

    Taken from here.

This is great news. A new earth would mean more resources and land, which in turn will lead to new civilizations and more opportunity for development.

Wonder when I can head over there.

And oh, imagine the possibilities of life on the planet. Cute little bunnies that roll around like tumbleweed to T-Rex seized otters swimming beside whales.

I think the coke and pocky’s taking over.

Was catching up on news over at Japan Probe and BBC news.

And I came across some very bad news, it appears that there was a shootout in Virginia Tech and there were 30-odd casualties.

Edit: From what I’ve read in The New Paper, there are currently 33 dead and 29 injured.

    Here’s an excerpt from BBC:

The shootings on Monday occurred in two separate locations, two hours apart.

The first took place at 0715 (1215 GMT), at West Ambler Johnston Hall dormitory.

Then, at about 0915 (1415 GMT), 30 people were killed in the second shooting at Norris Hall, about half a mile (800 metres) from the first, on the same campus.

“It’s certainly reasonable for us to assume that Cho was the shooter in both places,” police said.

However, they have not ruled out that a second gunman could have been involved.

My heart goes out to the families of the victims and the traumatized students.

Here’s a link if you’re looking for someone or if you know someone’s okay.

  • Whale capsizes boat, kills one

gettingaclue 11:08 am on March 23, 2007 Permalink | Reply

Been trying to catch up with the news in Japan for a bit since I got my com repaired and while checking the news, I came across a weird but sad piece of news.

I’m sure many have heard of the whaling going on in Japan, some people think it’s bad, some people think that it’s their way of life. Some have even went as far as to throw acid on whaling boats.

Now, it seems, the whales are turning the tables. Just recently, a whale over-turned a fishing boat containing three fishermen that were trying to save it. While two men were saved, one of the fishermen drowned.

    Pause Sonific, play video.

It’s quite sad to have someone die while trying to save an animal.

“TOKYO (Reuters) – A Japanese fisherman drowned on Tuesday after a whale he was trying to rescue capsized his small fishing boat, a coastguard official said.

Three fishermen tried to rescue the sperm whale, about 10-meter (yard) long, after it strayed into a bay off the southwestern island of Shikoku, about 800 km (500 miles) southwest of Tokyo.”
